The Cathedral of the Holy Sepulchre is a 10th-century Romanesque basilica. Inside, a blood-stained stone believed to come from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is preserved. Beyond the façade, inside lies a beautiful crypt.

Acquapendente is not just a stop on the old Via Francigena. Located in the province of Viterbo between Lazio and Tuscany, it is in fact one of the centers of great tourist interest of Tuscia. Born around the parish church of Santa Vittoria between the 9th and 10th centuries along the Via Francigena, the small village developed quickly and was a place of important passage and crossroads of people and trade. Well worth a visit are the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, in which a stone is stained with blood from the Tomb of Christ, the City Museum, the Flower Museum and the castle of Torre Alfina. Among the most traditional, widespread and renowned economic activities are those of craftsmanship, such as the art of ceramics and terracotta.

The Crypt of the Shrine, also known as the Crypt of the Holy Sepulchre, is located in Acquapendente, on the lower floor of the Basilica. It is a historic monument from the Romanesque period (10th-11th centuries) and has equally high naves with cross vaults. The crypt is divided into three transverse aisles and nine longitudinal aisles. With its 24 columns, it forms nine small naves with ribbed cross vaults, which form a characteristic T. A legend underlies the foundation of the church and the crypt of the Holy Sepulcher of Acquapendente. It is said that after the conquest of Jerusalem, some crusader knights brought here two small stones with the stains of the Blood of Christ, from the praetorium of Pontius Pilate.
