Acquapendente is not just a stop on the old Via Francigena. Located in the province of Viterbo between Lazio and Tuscany, it is in fact one of the centers of great tourist interest of Tuscia. Born around the parish church of Santa Vittoria between the 9th and 10th centuries along the Via Francigena, the small village developed quickly and was a place of important passage and crossroads of people and trade. Well worth a visit are the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, in which a stone is stained with blood from the Tomb of Christ, the City Museum, the Flower Museum and the castle of Torre Alfina. Among the most traditional, widespread and renowned economic activities are those of craftsmanship, such as the art of ceramics and terracotta.

The church was originally built in 1600 by Bishop Giovan Battista Febei. Unfortunately, the church was completely destroyed by bombing during World War II, specifically on June 8, 1944. Despite this destruction, the church was completely rebuilt in 1953 under the leadership of Bishop Luigi Boccadoro and was reopened to the public on December 12, 1954.

Acquapendente has just over five thousand inhabitants, is located in the province of Viterbo in the splendid territory of Tuscia. Acquapendente is not just any stop on the ancient Via Francigena, but a place of devotion, a spiritual destination. In the Romanesque crypt of the Cathedral there is the Sacellum of the Holy Sepulcher, which since the early Middle Ages has preserved the relics of the stones stained with the blood of Christ. This ancient building is said to reproduce the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, in which Jesus was laid before the Resurrection. Acquapendente is also a place of enchanted woods, of clear flowing waters, of other itineraries to follow to discover a rich biodiversity and surprising landscapes. This is why it is the Green Jerusalem: a territory of the soul, an inner journey, a place to find oneself, a regenerating break along the path of life.

Acquapendente is a small, "typical" Italian town in the far north of the Italian region of Lazio on the border with Tuscany. Worth seeing are the picturesque alleys of the old town and the interior of the Basilica San Sepolcro from the twelfth century. As the name of the city suggests, there are several small waterfalls in the area around Acquapendente.
