Mount Secchieta lies between the municipalities of Reggello and Montemignaio. The peak, approximately 1,500 meters above sea level, is part of the Pratomagno ridge and separates the Casentino valley from the Upper Valdarno valley. There is a refuge there, which can also be reached by a paved road.

Capanna delle Guardie is a bivouac located at 1340 meters on Pratomagno, between the Vallombrosa Biogenetic State Reserve and the protected area of the Bosco di Sant’Antonio. The Bivouac, easily reachable from various paths, has 9 beds: there are in fact 3 bunk beds for three people. The bivouac is equipped with an internal fireplace, internal sink, large table with 2 benches and a water source outside (in recent years water has not always been present, so it is recommended to bring water with you). Outside there are several tables and two braziers; there is also a bathroom that can be accessed with the key provided on request by the Union of Municipalities of Valdarno and Valdisieve. The Tuscan town of Consuma was born along an ancient road that connected the Casentino with Florence and Valdarno, precisely at a height of 1050 meters above sea level. ... The name of Consuma probably derives from the Consumi family, originally from Ferrara, expelled from that city for political reasons. The small church of Consuma was built in 1932 based on a design by the architect Father Franci, over an old chapel that dated back to 1500. The Church of Consuma, dedicated to San Domenico, commissioned by Don Oreste Veneri and designed by the architect Father Raffaello Franci, was consecrated by Mons. Settimio Peroni on October 1, 1932. The large fresco in the apse, created in 1994, is the work of the painter Luciano Guarnieri. The restoration of the bell tower and the façade, made urgent by the fall of some stones on the road, was possible thanks to the contribution ... of the diocese of Fiesole, and the offerings of numerous and generous benefactors. Always open, the bivouac only has a fireplace and a few battered pots (better to bring something). There are many grills. There is running water recently restored (2024). I found a couple of volunteers who take care of the House. It is also an educational center for the park. The place is wonderful.

I had a great time there. The room in the back is really nice, silence and cool. The host cooked a great meal and had a lot of tips for the pelgrimmage.

The Secchieta refuge offers refreshment (sweet and very good stuffed flatbreads) after the splendid climb that leads to the locality of the same name (Secchieta). Beautiful place known by those who go in BDC, MTB, Gravel or trekking lover; with great potential, once even a ski resort, today unfortunately a bit forgotten.
