A large reservoir that feeds the Tiber

The Battle of Anghiari was fought on June 29, 1440, in this very place. It was later reproduced in a mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci, datable to 1503-1504 and already commissioned for the Salone dei Cinquecento (then called the "Sala del Gran Consiglio") of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.

It is the largest lake in Tuscany. Created by damming the Tiber River, the lake is used to supply the water supply of the surrounding towns, for irrigation and to regulate the flow of the Tiber and avoid summer droughts.

In the northern part of the Tiber Valley, at the confluence of the Tiber with the Ancione stream.

Given the nature of the lake, which is for drinking water use, it cannot be accessed by motor boats and there are also bans on access by cars and motorbikes along the banks.
