Originally built in 1314 by Bonifacio Aldighieri, with the approval of Giberto III da Correggio, Baganzola Castle was destroyed the following year by Matteo da Correggio, who rebelled against his uncle. Rebuilt by Paolo Aldighieri, the castle was again devastated in 1325 by the troops of Azzone Visconti, an ally of the Pallavicino family. Following the assignment of the Baganzola territory to Andrea Valeri in 1435, the current late-medieval tower was likely built on its ruins. Completed in 1438, it remained in the possession of the Valeri counts until the Napoleonic abolition of feudal rights in 1805. Purchased by private individuals, the building was later modified and converted into a residence. SOURCE: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baganzola

Built in the Middle Ages, the original chapel was destroyed in 1180 by a flood and was subsequently rebuilt in Romanesque style; modified and significantly enlarged in the first half of the 15th century, it was restored in 1881 and restructured in 1911, with the construction of the apse and chapels and the raising of the bell tower in neo-Romanesque style; restored again in 1933, it underwent further work between 1994 and 1998. The neoclassical church, developed on a three-nave plan, preserves intact the lower half of the 13th-century bell tower, covered in river stone and brick; Inside, the apse is adorned with a large mural depicting the Risen Christ between Saints Peter and Paul, painted between 1994 and 1998. The building, rebuilt in 1720 by Dorotea Sofia of Neoburg, wife of Duke Francesco Farnese, has an octagonal plan with two towers and a double-vaulted dome and a characteristic roof of yellow, blue and white majolica tiles. Inside, the dome, frescoed by Sebastiano Galeotti with the “Assumption welcomed into Paradise by the Trinity”, can be glimpsed thanks to a star-shaped opening. On the high altar is the “Annunciation” by Giovanni Maria Piane known as Molinaretto (1660 – 1745) and on the two side altars stand out “The Visitation” and the “Nativity” works by Clemente Ruta. On the entrance portal, in 1775, was placed the organ made by Giovanni Cavalletti with a wooden case carved by Ignazio Marchetti. By testamentary bequest of Dorotea Sofia, the oratory, the rectory and the annexed furnishings constituted hereditary assets of the Duchesses of Parma.
