The town sits on a small rock, nestled on the right bank of the Belbo River, 555 meters above sea level. It is one of the most important hazelnut-producing centers.

Charming historic village. Places of interest include the parish church of Sant'Ambrogio and the 13th-century medieval bridge, still intact. The FFSS train station is about three kilometers from the center.

From Prunetto the road to Gottasecca, after a "soft" start, becomes steep. It is a hundred meters of tiring climb, but once you reach the "La Curma" area the panorama that opens up repays every effort. An overall view of the Alpine arc, which includes a good portion of the Maritime Alps, his majesty Monviso and, towards the North, the mountains of the Susa and Lanzo Valleys, behind the Vanoise, still beyond the Gran Paradiso... you just need to "hit" a beautiful sunny day. The little road continues for a few km alternating between the Uzzone Valley and the Bormida Valley, before descending to Gottasecca.

The church of the Immaculate Conception dates back to the 17th-18th century. Inside there is a beautiful eighteenth-century Genoese statue in white marble depicting the Immaculate Madonna purchased at the beginning of the 19th century by the provost Don Francesco Reverdito.

Spigno Monferrato is a pretty town in the province of Alessandria, on the border with Liguria.

The church of Sant'Anna in Squaneto (a hamlet of the municipality of Spigno Monferrato) preserves a notable Genoese statue in white marble. Worth a stop.
