Unfortunately, only open on a few dates. An impressive building with plenty to discover. +++ Schüttorf's most outstanding building is the Protestant Reformed Church of St. Laurentius, built in the Gothic style. The start of construction of the three-aisled hall church with five bays and a polygonal choir has not yet been concretely documented. However, based on documents, indulgences, and expert reports, it can be established that construction of the present church, made of Bentheim sandstone, began as early as the early 14th century. The tower, visible from afar, whose construction date is unclear, has a stone body approximately 42 meters high. Together with the spire and the cross with weather vane, the "Schüttorf Giant" reaches a total height of 81 meters. The tower caught fire six times between 1684 and 1889 due to lightning strikes. Brave citizens repeatedly managed to extinguish the fires with wet furs and sacks, preventing major damage. During the last tower fire, the fire was fought with goat's milk. Many Schüttorf residents helped, forming a chain of buckets to carry the milk up to the top of the tower, where a brave roofer fought the fire with a large hand-held sprayer. The milk formed a crust and deprived the glowing beams of oxygen. The Vechte River flows through Schüttorf. It has been beautifully restored to its natural state at the Vechte meadows, making it a wonderful place for relaxing walks.

A beautiful, modern restaurant with an excellent menu. Behind the restaurant are men's and women's restrooms, each with a changing room. Ideal if you want to swim in the lake.
