Construction of the open-air stage as a gathering place (Thingplatz) began in 1934. It rises about 100 m above the town of Kamenz and has space for 7,000 spectators. On the site is a sanitary building, number 23, which was built at the same time as the stage. To the west of the stage are five stone pedestals as the remains of the war memorial for fallen soldiers of the First World War, which was built in connection with the gathering place and was demolished after 1945.

To the west of the city, the Hutberg rises about 100 meters above the old town, 294 meters above sea level. The name of the mountain is not derived from the hat, but from the herding of sheep.
