In near-total silence, we stroll across the grounds, savoring the moment. The church shines in all its glory, bathed in the rays of the autumn sun. We enter the church; a service is in progress, and it's noticeable that Sorbian is still actively spoken here. We don't want to disturb them any further. We continue our walk through the grounds, reach the monastery café, and take a seat. After a while, we head back outside and are surprised by a flood warning sign. A few meters away, the Klosterwasser stream babbles along, almost like a brook, several meters below. We return to the church. Now, after the service, let's take another look inside. It's built in the Late Gothic style. The interior is beautiful, too, with a view of the altar and the interplay of red and white tones. The gallery is lined with statues. With these impressions, we leave the grounds. https://youtu.be/X0epJTurlSE

To the west of the city, the Hutberg rises about 100 meters above the old town, 294 meters above sea level. The name of the mountain is not derived from the hat, but from the herding of sheep. It was intended to protect the trade route, the so-called "Via Regia," which runs across Europe from Ukraine to Spain. Source: https://kamenz-entdecken.de/entdecken/natur/hutberg#denkmale

The Bismarck Stone was erected on April 1, 1895, the 80th birthday of the former Chancellor and Foreign Minister. Bismarck played a key role in the unification of the German Empire and was more or less well-respected by the population. When he was dismissed by German Emperor Wilhelm II in 1890, the German population was upset. On April 1, 1895, over 100 cities declared Bismarck an honorary citizen and erected a monument. This was also the case in Kamenz. Unfortunately, the bronze medallion attached to the monument was destroyed within the first month. It is suspected that Bismarck's political opponents, probably Social Democrats, were responsible. Sources: https://kamenz-entdecken.de/entdecken/natur/hutberg#denkmale

The 40-meter-high tower is visible from afar and dominates the city's skyline. Yet one thing is clear: the secular building is not intended to overshadow the sacred main church. Amidst the red of the town hall, the golden clock immediately catches the eye. Likewise, the decorative coat of arms of the city of Kamenz, in the form of a relief coat of arms beneath the clock. Directly above the entrance is a counter commemorating the city's 800th anniversary. Starting at 800 on August 22, 2022, it counted backward 800 days to the beginning of the anniversary year on January 1, 2025, and has been counting upwards ever since. Kamenz's town hall is generally considered one of the most beautiful buildings from the first half of the 19th century. Source: https://kamenz-entdecken.de/entdecken/auchsehenswert/marktplatz

The memorial opened on June 11, 2011. In order to produce cheaply, Elster GmbH, as the company was known for camouflage purposes, decided with the SS to build a concentration camp in Kamenz and force the prisoners to work for Elster GmbH. It was decided to house the prisoners in the former cloth factory in Herrental. Starting at the end of 1944, prisoners from the surrounding concentration camps began arriving at the Kamenz subcamp. There were approximately 1,000 of them, primarily political opponents of the National Socialist regime. They were selected based on two criteria: the prisoners had to have a profession suitable for the job, such as welder or lathe operator, and, if possible, be able to speak French. During the 130 days of the camp's existence, 182 people are documented to have died here. Their names are recorded on four plaques at the memorial. It is assumed that there were almost 100 additional deaths, but their names were unfortunately lost. Source: https://kamenz-entdecken.de/entdecken/gedenken/herrenmuehle

St. Just Church, also known as St. Jodokus Church, is a medieval chapel built as a pilgrimage church, whose name "Jodokus" likely evolved into "Just." Its origins likely date back to the early 13th century. St. Just Church is primarily used for church funerals. Occasional services and church music events also take place there.
