It's a ghost town. Unfortunately the area where Apice stands is highly seismic and, after two violent earthquakes (one in 1962 and the other in 1980) it was abandoned by its inhabitants following numerous collapses.
Rich in splendid 17th-18th century stone portals and several 16th-century loggias, it is a very characteristic historic center made mainly of limestone extracted on site
It was the seat of command of the feudal possessions of the powerful Gesualdo family and home of Prince Carlo Gesualdo, one of the fathers of modern polyphonic music.
City famous for its ceramics and for its Norman castle which bears witness to the antiquity of these places. It is the second most populous municipality in the province of Avellino after the capital.
