The climb to Monte Summano is always beautiful and interesting and being exposed to the south it can be done practically all year round. From the top there are trails that vary in difficulty and beauty but are always fun and exciting.

Evocative old arched stone bridge over the Posina stream. Construction date unknown. Flanked by the tallest and parallel bridge from the end of the 19th century (in masonry with high arches at the ends and in the central part in metal), built for the passage of the Rocchette-Arsiero railway and the arrival at the Arsiero station.

Mount Summano is a mountain of great historical, natural, and scenic interest. It is the last offshoot of the Monte Novegno chain overlooking the plain: from the summit, you can enjoy a beautiful 360° panorama of the Po Valley on one side and the Astico Valley and the Venetian Prealps on the other. It has never been a volcano, despite some misconceptions based on its conical shape (which, however, is only apparent from the southern perspective, i.e., from the plain). The toponym perhaps derives from the god Summanus, the god of thunder and nocturnal atmospheric phenomena (as opposed to Jupiter, god of daytime thunder). It has always been a sacred place and a destination for pilgrimages: from ancient pagan cults in the Etruscan and Roman eras (as evidenced by archaeological finds) to its crystallization with the Sanctuary of the Gerolimini Friars, beneath the summit. During World War I, it was militarized due to its remote yet strategic location, serving as a second line of defense in the event of an enemy breakthrough. Traces of two anti-aircraft emplacements remain on the summit; cave shelters are present in various secluded spots; the eastern (Rancina) and western (Creste all the way to Brazome) ridges are dotted with observation posts and artillery emplacements. It boasts a unique and rare floral biodiversity, undoubtedly due to its location and shape; according to belief, also due to the fact that this hill has been a pilgrimage site since ancient times; traditionally, every traveler brought flowers from their homeland as a gift to the mountain. At the summit, an imposing 16-meter concrete cross stands with a steel Christ in a somewhat unusual pose, with his hand raised: it represents the moment of resurrection, but it also seems to be a greeting and a wish for the hiker who has made it this far! https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Summano
