Bivio Conrad is one of the crossroads of the network of military roads built during World War I by the Austro-Hungarian army as quick and easy access routes to the Ortigara-Zebio-Interrotto front, in order to replenish its forces and resources. Specifically, three roads intersect here: the short Conrad Straße, which connects Bivio Italia to Bivio Conrad; Mecenseffy Straße, which begins here and leads to the foot of Monte Forno; and Zoviello Straße, which ascends from Val Galmarara. The view is wonderful, recommended in summer but also in winter in about two hours with almost always groomed slopes. The visit to the caves is interesting, built by the Italians and then conquered by the Austrians where they placed their machine guns. Just look out of the openings to understand the strategic importance of the place. Furthermore, further down there was the Renzola spring, essential for the water supply. From the pass, a path leads to Cima Portule where the view becomes even more spectacular. Opposite the Verena which dominates the valley, the Italian stronghold. I climbed Cima Portule by MTB and went down the path that descends to Bocchetta, continued along the road towards Malga Larici, up to the crossroads that descends directly to the left (signposts) towards the Val Renzola road at the first hairpin bend. Recommended, with technical passages.
