The Rennsteig Trail ends at this bridge—the border between Thuringia and Bavaria. Here, the pebbles collected from the Werra in Hörschel are transferred to the Selbitz River.

Since 2006, a curiosity has been located on the slopes of Rumpelbühl: the highest vineyard in Franconia. In 2006, the Carlsgrün winegrowers' association produced the first Roter Regent.

In 1926, the Bad Steben Winter Sports Club built the first ski jump on the "Leithe" river near Carlsgrün, allowing jumps of up to 20 meters. In 1952, a larger wooden inrun tower was constructed and the landing slope was re-profiled. In 1968, the wooden tower was demolished due to dilapidation and rebuilt in 1987. In 1994, the facility was covered with plastic matting. This made ski jumping possible even in summer. At the end of the 2000s, however, interest in ski jumping in Bad Steben declined sharply, and in 2010 the ski jump had to be closed due to defects in the matting. The winter sports club disbanded in 2012. The dilapidated Frankenwaldschanze was demolished in March 2015.

The oldest operating inn in the Franconian Forest serves Franconian cuisine—prepared with fresh ingredients, of course. Seats are very popular, so reservations are recommended.
