Medium difficulty tour

This is a large picnic area with shelter located on a hill overlooking a volume. Volubrums are artificial water basins used to water animals. The refuge is typical of the Apennines: not guarded but managed by local clubs who keep it tidy and clean. It can be reached with an easy walk from Campo Staffi.

This is one of the many splendid karst plateaus of the Simbruini mountains. Here there is a border block dated 1847, which marked the limit of the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal State. This plateau can be reached via an easy dirt path in the woods from the Santissima Trinità car park. From here you can also enjoy a special view of the north face of Mount Tarino.

Challenging but worth the effort

The word "Volubro" indicates, in Lazio, the lake basins with surface outlets used for watering livestock. The Volubro del Ceraso is located close to the border with the Abruzzo region, a short distance from Monte Tarino and the source of the Aniene river; inside it is possible to observe a large colony of "Carassius Auratus": goldfish!

The Campo Ceraso refuge is an unattended refuge. It is located at a height of 1561 m, in the high Fioio Valley between Mount Tarino and the Serra di San Michele.

The summit of Monte Tarino, within the regional park of the Simbruini Mountains, reaches 1961m. It is the third highest peak in the park.

Monna della Forcina is one of the key points in the Mtb outings in Simbruini: here you can start the hard climb of Mount Tarino (not recommended by bike from this side), go up towards Campo Staffi, go down towards Campo Ceraso and Campo della Pietra or go down towards Fiumata or Fillet. If you need water, go to Fiumata, Campo Ceraso or Campo Staffi.
