The San Giovanni Mine towers above the town of Iglesias, nestled among the limestone hills of Marganai. Active since the 19th century, it was one of the most important mines in the Sulcis region for innovation and production capacity. Today, amidst old washeries and abandoned tunnels, the area retains considerable historical and natural charm. Panoramic trails with views of the town and the coast depart from here, and nearby is the evocative Santa Barbara Cave, considered one of Sardinia's most precious geological treasures.

Iglesiente, the region at the center of the Sardinian mining epic and of which it is the capital, derives its name. It has a population of 27,000 and is the episcopal see and heir to the ancient diocese of Sulcis. Iglesias means "churches" in Spanish. It is no coincidence that in a city with a glorious past, especially under Catalan-Aragonese rule (when it was a royal city), the celebrations surrounding the Good Friday customs stand out, recalling Spanish customs in form and color. The mystery processions on Holy Tuesday and Holy Friday are particularly impressive. Among the churches, the Cathedral of Santa Chiara (dating back to the 13th century), the churches of Madonna delle Grazie, Del Collegio, a Jesuit temple, and San Francesco, one of Sardinia's best-preserved and most important buildings in the Gothic-Catalan style, which houses an altarpiece dating back to 1560, are particularly worth seeing.

The Torre di Cala Domestica is a remarkable historical landmark that captivates visitors with its stunning visual appeal and rich heritage. Built in 1765, this cylindrical limestone and granite tower is approximately 12 metres in diameter and approximately 11 metres high, offering a unique glimpse into 18th century architectural mastery. The entrance consists of a striking stone architrave supported by two sturdy stones, leading into a vaulted chamber 7 metres in diameter. This impressive structure is not only a testament to Sardinia's coastal fortifications, but also offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Strategically located on the coast, the tower played a crucial role in naval defence, particularly during World War II, where it served as a lookout point for the Royal Navy. Visitors can admire the well-preserved features, including the external metal rung staircase that connects the ground floor entrance to the upper floors, and explore the remains of the surrounding area, which include ruins of warehouses and tunnels dug by miners. The nearby Cala Domestica beach, characterized by its pristine white and amber sand, further enhances the appeal of this destination, making it an ideal place to relax and explore. Surrounded by turquoise waters and dramatic cliffs, Torre di Cala Domestica offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in its enchanting ambience.

Buggerru is an Italian municipality (comune) with 1053 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2022) in the province of Sulcis Iglesiente in Sardinia. The municipality is located about 28.5 kilometers north-northwest of Carbonia and about 14.5 kilometers northwest of Iglesias directly on the Mediterranean Sea.
