The Rifugio Roma (Kasseler Hütte) is a refuge located in the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park, at 2,274 m above sea level, in the Vedrette di Ries group, within the municipal territory of Campo Tures. The first building, erected in 1877 and able to accommodate about 30 people, was called Rieserfernerhütte. Ten years later, with the establishment of the Tures section of the Deutscher und Österreichischer Alpenverein, the search for a suitable location for the construction of a refuge in the Vedrette di Ries group began. Work on the current structure began in the summer of 1894 and ended with the inauguration on 24 July 1895. The following year, the Alpine Association of Kassel, together with that of Tures, decided to change the name to Kasseler Hütte. During the years of the Great War, the refuge remained in a state of abandonment; only in 1926 did the Roman section of the Italian Alpine Club take over its management, renaming it Rifugio Vedrette Giganti, or much more commonly Rifugio Roma, to the disapproval of the local population. In 1959, the era of the legendary Seeber family began. Ernst Seeber managed it until 1964, or until the dynamite attacks perpetrated by the Befreiungsausschuss Südtirol ended the mountain activity. Only in 1970 was Ernst able to return to take care of the refuge, an activity that today is continued by his son Arnold. www.kasseler-huette.com

Very rustic hut. There is a different beautiful detail on every corner. Unfortunately we were there too early and the restaurant was not yet open. But it smelled very good. ;-)

Southeast of Rein in Taufers, high above the Bachertal, lies the Kasseler Hütte, also known by its old name Hochgallhütte. It is located at 2276 m above sea level and is one of the most beautifully situated mountain huts in the Tauferer Ahrntal.   From Rein in Taufers, the varied hiking trail leads through picturesque larch forests, pine stands and mountain meadows, as well as past rushing waterfalls and glacial streams. The hiking trail is well-paved and only moderately steep, so that the hike is easy even for less stamina hikers. When you arrive, the magnificent view all the way to the Durreck group with its three-thousand-meter peaks makes up for the two-hour climb.   Pamper your palate at over 2000 meters altitude! After completing the climb, you can let the hut host spoil you with traditional and homemade South Tyrolean specialties. The Seeber family has been running the Kasseler Hut since 1959 and is always concerned about the well-being of their guests. They serve delicious local dishes every day, such as dumplings with goulash or a snack board with South Tyrolean bacon and grey cheese. And with a cool drink you can really switch off and enjoy the wonderful panoramic view.   Hiking and climbing in untouched nature! The Kasseler Hut is also a popular stopover for various, sometimes challenging, high mountain tours in the area. From there, mountaineers can tackle the ascent of numerous three-thousand-meter peaks, such as the Magerstein, the Schneebiger Nock or the highest mountain in the Rieserferner group, the Hochgall (3435 m). Guests who do not want to complete their tour in a single day or who want to climb several different peaks in the area can stay overnight in the Kasseler Hut. This way, you can start your next adventure well rested the next day.

The Steinzger Alm is picturesquely situated above Lake Antholz. It's open in winter (closed on Wednesdays) and offers cold and hot drinks and food. The Kaiserschmarrn here is also delicious 😌

This year again as a guest including overnight stay. Great hosts, really nice people, the boss always has tips for tours ready 👍 Very tasty food, everything homemade, no "bag food". Great!
