The Torre Salsa nature reserve is an oasis protected by the WWF. Inside the reserve, there is the Salsa Tower. The coast is characterized by high overhanging cliffs and the territory is covered with vineyards, olive groves and the "Secagno" tomato, which grows only in this drought area. In spring, the 20 species of orchids bloom which can be visited by following the path from the visitor center that leads to the orchid garden.

It was the birthplace of Pirandello, it is the place where Camilleri's yellow novels starring Inspector Montalbano are set and it is very famous for the Scala dei Turchi, a formation of white marl overlooking the sea not far from the town.
