이 공장은 1903년 에두아르트 알베르트(Eduard Albert)에 의해 옛 우셔 뮐레(Uscher Mühle) 부지에 설립되었습니다. 그림 같은 킬(Kyll) 계곡에 위치를 정하게 된 결정적인 이유는 1871년에 개통된 게롤슈타인-트리어(Gerolstein–Trier) 철도 노선과의 편리한 연결성, 그리고 공장 바로 뒤를 흐르며 생산에 필요한 에너지를 공급했던 킬(Kyll) 강 덕분이었습니다. 오늘날까지도 그곳에서는 정밀 파이프(황동 및 알루미늄 등)가 가공되고 있습니다.

버트라다부르크는 뀰렌바흐 위로 킬 계곡에 인상적으로 자리 잡고 있습니다. 오늘날의 성곽은 아마도 13세기 말에 지어졌으며 1331년에 처음 문서에 언급되었습니다. 오늘날에도 성의 모습을 결정짓는 강력한 이중 타워 게이트가 특히 눈에 띕니다. 이 성에 얽힌 전설은 카롤루스 대제가 이곳에서 태어났다는 것이지만, 역사적으로 입증되지는 않았습니다. 이 성은 오늘날에도 사람이 살고 있어 특정 시간과 부분적으로만 방문할 수 있습니다. 킬 강과 마을과 함께 이곳에서 가장 아름다운 역사적 명소 중 하나입니다.

When we hear of the patronage of Saint Thomas, most people in Germany probably automatically think back two thousand years to the time of Christ, because one of the twelve apostles Jesus called to follow him bears this name. In the biblical accounts of the New Testament, he is nicknamed "Didymus," which means "twin" in German. In this case, however, the chosen patron of the former monastery and current retreat house—and also the namesake of this place in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm—refers to Saint Thomas Becket (1118 to 1170), also known as Thomas of Canterbury after the place of his bishopric and martyrdom.
