A village in the Madonie park with around a thousand inhabitants, Gratteri is located on a panoramic hill above Cefalù and the first traces of habitation in the area probably date back to the late Bronze Age or the beginning of the Iron Age. Worth visiting is the so-called "Matrice Vecchia" church and, just outside the town centre, the Abbey of San Giorgio, from the Norman era.

Municipality of around 3,000 inhabitants located in the southern area of the Madonie park, Polizzi Generosa is known for the sfoglio, a typical dessert invented in the 16th century by the Benedictine nuns in honor of the feast of San Benedetto, and for being the only municipality in the area to boast specimens of fir trees. Worth visiting here are the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the abbey of Santa Croce, inside which there are some Byzantine frescoes.

Cefalù is a delightful Norman town lying on the shores of a very blue sea and dominated by a fortress so famous as to be known simply as… the Rocca. Easily accessible by train, it is the perfect destination for a day trip from Palermo, for a holiday of a few days or as a base for exploring the nearby Aeolian Islands, but in our opinion once you arrive in Cefalù you will never want to leave.
