The Villa, owned by the Province of Lecco, is one of the main historical and environmental sites in the area, thanks also to its privileged position. The complex is made up of the villa itself, which has now been transformed into a museum and is also home to an internationally renowned conference centre, and the splendid botanical garden that surrounds it and extends for almost two km along the lake shore. The route begins in the historic town of Chiavenna and follows a mostly flat, well-maintained cycle path south along the Mera River. Passing the picturesque Lago di Mezzola, the route offers beautiful lake views and leads through quiet villages with a typically Italian flair. The route is mostly paved and very suitable for road bikes, also ideal for longer tours to Lake Como. Here, riders can expect a scenic ride with views of mountains, lakes, and Mediterranean vegetation. The route can be easily combined with a train or rail connection, allowing for flexible departure and return times.

The bridge contains cobblestones and is quite steep, so enjoy the challenge!

The bike path mostly runs close to the lakeshore. On hot days, be sure to stop and stretch your feet!

A beautiful old town that invites you to take a break: So, first an espresso, then move on!

The small fountain to the left of the entrance offers the opportunity to refill your water bottles and cool off.

Varenna is the hub for ferries on Lake Como. Taking bicycles is no problem, but the seating directly at the loading ramp takes some getting used to. Prices are moderate, e.g.: Varenna-Belaggio 🧍🏻‍♂️+🚲=€5.60.
