12월 25, 2024, View of Lake Iseo
Lake Iseo, located between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia, is one of the most fascinating pre-Alpine lakes in Lombardy. With a surface area of about 65 square kilometers and an altitude of 185 meters above sea level, it is known for its natural beauty and the picturesque villages that surround it. In the center of the lake is Montisola, the largest lake island in Europe, which is one of the main tourist attractions. The shores of the lake are characterized by enchanting views, with mountains reflected in its waters and picturesque villages such as Lovere, Sarnico and Iseo, each rich in history and culture. The main activities include boat trips, trekking along the scenic paths that border the lake and discovering the cellars of Franciacorta, famous for the production of quality sparkling wines. Lake Iseo offers a unique mix of nature, sports, culture and gastronomy, making it a perfect destination for all types of visitors.

Monte Guglielmo, also known as "Gölem", represents the quintessential Brescia mountains and is a very popular destination for trekking and cycling. It is accessible both from Val Trompia and from Lake Iseo, making it suitable for everyone during all seasons, without particularly exposed sections and with a moderate challenge, characterized only by short, more demanding sections. Once you reach the top, where the Redeemer monument stands, you can enjoy a 360 degree panoramic view that ranges from the plain to Lake Iseo, up to the imposing peaks of the Orobie. On the clearest days, it is even possible to glimpse the majestic Monte Rosa.

This is the Pontogna hut, which takes its name from the locality of the same name in which it resides. In summer it is used for grazing cows that go up to the mountain pastures. The mountain hut can be reached by off-road bike and obviously by walking.

Iconic place of Monte Guglielmo which represents reaching the top. The monument stands on the summit of Mount Guglielmo, at around 1950 meters above sea level, built right on the mountain at the beginning of the 20th century as one of the twenty (one per century) monuments to the Redeemer erected on the Italian peaks. The works were conducted by the father of the future Pope Paul VI, Giorgio Montini: in 1902 the chapel was inaugurated, twenty meters high with a large iron cross which, subsequently left to fall into ruin, was rebuilt in 1967, at the express wish of Pope Paul YOU. In his memory, in 1998 a bronze statue was placed next to the church.

Mount Guglielmo, or rather "Gölem", is the Brescia mountain par excellence, and a popular destination for trekking and bike rides. It can be reached either from Val Trompia or from Lake Iseo, feasible for everyone in both summer and winter, it has no exposed sections and apart from a few steep climbs it is not particularly demanding. At the top, reaching the Redentore monument you can enjoy a 360 degree view from the plain, to Lake Iseo up to the Orobie, in fact on the clearest days you can also see Mount Rosa.

5월 31, 2023, Monte Guglielmo Summit and Chapel
The peak most loved and known by the people of Brescia. Its peak, located between Val Trompia and Lake Iseo, is easily recognizable even from the plain. The surrounding area is full of paths that allow you to reach almost 2,000 meters above sea level. A curiosity: the toponym "Guglielmo" actually derives from a translation error: the original term comes from the Lombard word "gölem" – erroneously translated into "Guglielmo" – which in turn derives from the Latin "culmen", or "culmination" .

Starting from Cimmo we will have to face a rather long but very scenic route with a considerable difference in height to overcome (16.2 km and 1.150 m). If we want a shorter itinerary and with less height difference we can start from Pezzoro (10km and 1.000m) while the climb from Zone is the one with a greater length (19km and 1.300m). In the presence of snow it is better to go up from Zone as starting from Cimmo or Pezzoro we will have to overcome the steepest stretch in the shade with abundant snow.

One of the twenty monuments built on the Italian mountaintops at the beginning of the 20th century, which are dedicated to the Redeemer. The chapel was inaugurated in 1902 and later abandoned in ruin, reconstructed in 1967 upon the wish of Pope Paul VI. A bronze statue was raised beside the small church in 1998 in his memory.

Too bad you can see very well Monte Baldo but not Lake Garda. It would have been spectacular to see Lake Iseo and Garda from the same point. Just to find fault with something near perfect...
