A town of about 12,500 inhabitants in the province of Brescia, located between the Oglio and Mella rivers, the fortified village of Orzinuovi has been known since 1193. Today, among the things that remain from the military citadel built by the Venetian Republic centuries ago, there is above all the fortress of San Giorgio.

The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Caravaggio, known as the Madonnina dell'Oglio, in Orzinuovi, was built thanks to the collection of funds from believers in the area who did not want to walk too many kilometers to go and pray at the famous Sanctuary of Caravaggio. This small Sanctuary was built in the eighteenth century with the same statue of the peasant girl who, according to popular belief, saw the Madonna. The shade of the pilgrims' portico, equipped with tables and benches (Attention - non-potable water), the suggestive paved churchyard and the door of the sanctuary always open, which preludes the intimate mystical atmosphere of the interior with the constant presence of the Blessed Virgin and the peasant Giannetta, are the calling card of this welcoming sanctuary.
