This complex, also known as the Sanctuary of the Annunciation, is located in a splendid panoramic position overlooking the valley and is a site of great historical, artistic, and spiritual interest. Founded in the 15th century, the Sanctuary is a notable example of Lombard late Gothic architecture. The convent is run by the Capuchin Friars and is particularly linked to the figure of Blessed Innocenzo da Berzo, whose cell-museum is open to visitors.

A key feature of the "CRISTO RE" depictions is that Jesus is not shown on the cross or as crucified (although the outstretched arms suggest this from a distance), but rather Christ is the King, the victor over sin and death has overcome all the suffering in the world. It is the outstretched arms of the lovingly drawing Christ with which he embraces the land and the people living in it in blessing.

The Colle di Cristo Re, or complex of Santa Maria Maddalena, is located in Valcamonica, in the municipality of Bienno. The two chapels present, called Santa Marta (lower) and Maddalena (upper), with the hermits' residence attached, were built at the end of the 13th-14th century. In 1516, the frescoes decorating the cross vault of the lower chapel were created, attributed to Paolo da Cailina (the elder), while the paintings (1575) on the front wall of the Maddalena chapel are by an unknown author. Probably subsequent to the visit of San Carlo Borromeo (1580) are the sacristy and the Sepulcher cave, where a group of wooden statues sculpted in 1612 by Beniamino Simoni are located.
