The structure shown in the photo is not an aqueduct, but the ruins of the bridge (decommissioned and very unsafe) on the old route of the A11 motorway (so-called "Firenze-Mare"). The bridge was built around 1930, and closed in 1962, when the route of the highway was changed and the roadway was widened. The bridge was built in reinforced concrete, and represents, albeit in today's dilapidated conditions, an element of significant historical and architectural interest. The missing part, which overlooked the railway, was demolished in 2020 due to the risk of collapse.

Nice looping road up to the castle. You can enter the castle for €3. Information is in Italian and English

If you want to go up to the castle you can go a little further on the main road before turning right and then looping your way up the hill to the castle gate entrance. You can also go inside when it's open (costs €3). Information signs and leaflets have both an Italian and English option. Really interesting history and well worth a visit

In the middle of the nature reserve, the canal connects the sea with the Lago di Massaciuccoli
