The Palazzo Ducale is an important monument in Massa, located in Piazza Aranci. It was built in the mid-16th century according to the wishes of Prince Alberico I Cybo-Malaspina. Hence it is also called Palazzo Cybo-Malaspina. The impressive façade overlooking the square offers a color scheme of red and white (in the marble and stucco). Beyond the main entrance opens a large courtyard, surrounded by columns, staircases, loggias and marble portals. At the far end is a nymphaeum with a statue of Neptune riding the waves.

A modest peak (912 meters) of the Altissimo chain, Monte Folgorito is located on the border between the municipalities of Montignoso (Massa-Carrara) and Seravezza (Lucca). It seems that the name derives from the fact that its peak is a constant target of lightning and thunder during summer storms.

Piazza Aranci in Massa is named after the double row of orange trees, which were planted in the early nineteenth century after the hotly debated demolition of the church of San Pietro on the orders of Countess Elisa Baciocchi, Napoleon's niece. In the beginning, sweet citrus trees were selected and strict laws were in place to ensure that tourists and passers-by did not pick the fruits, which were instead given to charities. Over time, less tasty bitter citrus fruits were planted, which turned out to be stronger in winter. Giacomo Leopardi and Giosué Carducci were equally captivated by these trees and mentioned them in letters after visiting the square.

The Palazzo Ducale, with its size (82 m. in Piazza Aranci) and opulence, is certainly the most imposing and perhaps the most beautiful monument of Massa. It stems from the will of Prince Alberico I Cybo-Malaspina to give his small state a decorum and an image to figure well in the concert of refined principalities of the Italian '500. Massa Cybea was refounded and walled in 1547, Alberico transformed the old house he owned on the plain in the village of Bagnara into a palace to transfer the residence of the court from the too austere and medieval Malaspina castle . corner up to the ninth window of the facade (1567-1570). Antona is perched among olive and chestnut trees in the Frigido valley, nestled in the Apuan Alps. The village is formed by an intricate labyrinth of alleys and alleys, with houses adorned with beautiful friezes, marble bas-reliefs, majesty and aedicules enriched with sacred images. The church of San Geminiano stands out in the town, documented with certainty since 1297. Despite the transformations it has undergone over the centuries, the building partly retains its Romanesque structure. In the 16th century the two side naves were added. Inside there are valuable artistic and architectural works, such as a marble altar dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary dated 1711, the balustrade and the marble capitals of the sixteenth century, two marble statues and the glazed terracotta altarpiece by Benedetto Buglioni, from 1622, representing the Madonna with Child and four Saints. From Antona it is possible to follow various paths up to Canevara, Pian della Fioba and San Marcora.
