On the road that leads from the center of Massa to the Vestito pass, along the Frigido valley, the hamlet of Antona is a splendid village from which you can enjoy a splendid view of Versilia. It currently has about 400 inhabitants.

A modest peak (912 meters) of the Altissimo chain, Monte Folgorito is located on the border between the municipalities of Montignoso (Massa-Carrara) and Seravezza (Lucca). It seems that the name derives from the fact that its peak is a constant target of lightning and thunder during summer storms.

The Duomo San Martino has a white marble facade in three parts, with a rose window in the center above the coats of arms of the Pope and the Medici (Pietrasanta became Fiorentine in the 16th century). The baptistery in the street to the right of the Cathedral has a baptismal font from 1389. To the left of the cathedral you can admire a high brick bell tower and the Renaissance Palazzo Moroni with its double staircases.

Our house is open for your visit! The Church of Pietrasanta is the keeper of a vast heritage of history, culture and art. In 1513, Pope Leo X defined the borders of this land, eventually it was disputed between the powers of Lucca, Florence, Pisa and even Genoa: thus was born Versilia, divided from the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, a land of sea, hills and mountains with marble . The Florentine sent the atmosphere of the Renaissance to Pietrasanta, especially through the visit and residence of great artists, from the great Michelangelo to the leaders of Tuscan Renaissance painting. The Christian community of Pietrasante has grown over time, forming new parishes in the suburbs, but leaving the mother church in the center, the heart of the city: the cathedral, the baptistery and the bell tower. These monuments defy the ages and testify to a faith that is documented from the past to the present and to the future, as a sign of life on the journey from time to eternity. May your gaze of these beauties open our souls to the deep breath of eternal beauty. Source: https://www-duomodipietrasanta-org.translate.goog/?_x_tr_sl=it&_x_tr_tl=nl&_x_tr_hl=nl&_x_tr_pto=sc

Antona is perched among olive and chestnut trees in the Frigido valley, nestled in the Apuan Alps. The village is formed by an intricate labyrinth of alleys and alleys, with houses adorned with beautiful friezes, marble bas-reliefs, majesty and aedicules enriched with sacred images. The church of San Geminiano stands out in the town, documented with certainty since 1297. Despite the transformations it has undergone over the centuries, the building partly retains its Romanesque structure. In the 16th century the two side naves were added. Inside there are valuable artistic and architectural works, such as a marble altar dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary dated 1711, the balustrade and the marble capitals of the sixteenth century, two marble statues and the glazed terracotta altarpiece by Benedetto Buglioni, from 1622, representing the Madonna with Child and four Saints. From Antona it is possible to follow various paths up to Canevara, Pian della Fioba and San Marcora.
