The church sits enthroned on the summit of Monte Buja. The buildings on Monte Buja resemble a small medieval fortress and have evidently been lovingly preserved and restored. Those who enjoy typical Italian mountain villages will find what they're looking for up here. The functioning water station is particularly valuable for cyclists.

The climb to the summit of Monte Brancot offers an experience rich in history and nature, with the ruins of the castle and the small church of San Michele along the way. The vegetation changes with the altitude, and the final stretch offers breathtaking views. A non-technical but challenging excursion, best enjoyed in cooler seasons.

Monte San Simeone, or Mont Sant Simeon in Friulian, is the highest point (1505 m) of a double rock massif at the northernmost foothills of the Friulian plain near Gemona del Friuli. It rises an impressive 1300 m above the plain. This peripheral location means that the ascent offers beautiful views of the plain around Udine, as well as wonderful panoramas over the Tagliamento and the Julian Alps. The mountain massif is surrounded by the Tagliamento to the north and east, and to the west it drops steeply to Lago di Cavazzo. The two halves of the mountain massif are separated by a deep cut. The SP 36 runs over this from Bordano in the east to Interneppo in the west. At the highest point of this road - called Sella di Interneppo - an old, reasonably asphalted or concrete military road branches off to Monte San Simeone. However, it ends at an altitude of 1215 m near the small Chiesa San Simeone. Anyone who wants to go further up towards the summit will probably have to use a mountain bike. For fans of winding routes, this ascent is an absolute must, as there are 24 neatly stacked bends on the east side of the mountain. In some places there is so little space for the road in the steeply sloping walls that the bends had to be led through a total of nine short tunnels. In the area of the forepeak near the small chapel there are another three bends before the concrete track ends in a clearing. In total there are 27 bends to be negotiated. If you add the two bends on the SP 36 - regardless of whether you are coming from Bordano or Interneppo - there are 29 bends for an ascent of around 1000 m, a density that not even the Stelvio Pass can offer. The section of bends runs largely through sparse forest, so there is at least some shade even when the temperature is high.

Anyone should climb Mount Festa at least once both for its historical value and for the beautiful panorama of the lake of the three municipalities.

8월 28, 2023, Monte di Buia
The relief called "Monte di Buia" rises in the high central Friuli plain, dominated by the chains of the Julian and Carnic Pre-Alps. It is the highest of the three hills that characterize the Buja area, and is in turn made up of three peaks called, from east to west, "Mont di Zoc" (322 m), "San Laurinz" (325 m), “San Bastian” (335m). The parish church of San Lorenzo is located on the homonymous hill, in the center of the system; on the eastern hill remain the remains of a medieval fort ("Cjscjelàt"), while on the western one the site of the castle can be identified, near which the demolished church of San Sebastiano once stood. A plateau extends to the west of the parish, occupied by the agglomeration of houses that make up the hamlet of "Monte". Monte di Buia appears as a "three-pointed" natural relief, with an east-west orientation. The oldest traces of a human settlement are located in the "Pidicuel" locality, a valley located between the southern slopes of the mountain and the Pravìz hill. Over the decades, hundreds of flint tools (tools, scrapers, scrapers, burins, blades, arrows...), ceramic fragments and building materials that refer to a prehistoric settlement have been recovered during agricultural work in this area. There is also news of further finds of similar lithic objects in the arable land near Buja. The Forte del Monte Festa is inserted in the defensive system of the Upper Tagliamento-Val Fella together with the forts of Osoppo, Monte Ercole and Chiusaforte, it could control any invasions from the confluence of the Fella and Tagliamento rivers as well as from the Val del Lago. Its construction dates back to to 1910 and is connected by a large military road of 8 kilometers that from Interneppo climbs to the top of the mountain, at an altitude of 1060 meters. Unlike other similar buildings, the Forte del Monte Festa was never dismantled and in November 1917 it managed to block part of the Austro-German invasion. At his command was Captain Riccardo Winderling who made it operational with two hundred men on October 30 and blocked the descent of the imperial soldiers from the Alpine valleys for almost a week. On November 6, when the retreat towards the Piave had already begun, the Fort ran out of ammunition and was therefore abandoned. Despite the inexorable damage due to atmospheric agents and collapses, the Forte del Monte Festa remains one of the most evocative places in Friuli Venezia Giulia linked to the Great War. The CAI 838 path and the original military road allow you to reach a plateau at 980 meters above sea level. where you begin to see the first remains of the complex: the ruins of some barracks, warehouses and what were probably the soldiers' lodgings. After these, the road continues towards the top where the real fort is located. You can immediately see the two armored batteries (which could house 4 149mm cast iron guns with a metal cover) and, on the left, two caves used as hoists and ammunition storage. Between the two batteries the remains of the cableway that connected Monte Festa to Amaro, about 4 km as the crow flies, are still visible. Continuing the visit you can see other galleries before reaching the top of the fort which houses a building after the Great War. From this point it is possible to descend into the heart of the fort thanks to the stairs where, despite the collapses, casemates and the highest point of the freight elevator are visible.
