Maria Plozner Mentil (Timau, Paluzza 1884 - 1916) was a Carnic bearer during the Great War. Left alone with her four children (her husband was sent to fight in the Karst), she found herself living among soldiers as the mountains surrounding her village, Timau, were transformed into battlefields. Despite a difficult situation, like many other local women, she responded to the army's call for volunteers to transport supplies from the rear to the front line.
