The current sanctuary was built in the 15th century and became an important place of pilgrimage. The climb to the sanctuary is an exciting challenge. The challenging route crosses winding paths, woods and mountain slopes. However, the effort of the climb is rewarded not only by the surrounding natural beauty, but also by the spirituality and history that surround the sanctuary.

The views from up there are absolutely stunning - you can see for miles all around the valley. Getting to the top is no easy feat though, that path is pretty darn steep! Nothing beats the satisfaction of conquering the descent on foot though. You really feel like you earned those views. Nice experience. At Mt. Lussari it would be ideal to reserve a place in one of the restaurants in advance. The rush of hikers and day trippers is great. Condition, good shoes and enough liquid are required. I went up the Büsserweg and down the slope on foot. The hiking poles were ideal companions.
