The citadel was a symbol of the Visconti family's power and served as a military garrison, integrating with other fortifications in the upper city.

It's a steep climb up here, no matter which direction you come from. Unfortunately, the gate is still locked early in the morning, and you can't get in.

From the San Vigilio funicular exit, continue on the right, in a few minutes you will reach the gate of the castle park. Enter, go up the stairs inside the tower. At the top you can enjoy the 360° view of the whole of Bergamo in the shade of large trees.
