Bergamo Alta (Upper Bergamo) is located on a hill overlooking the plains of the province of Bergamo. On clear days, you can see the Apennines and, even better, the Lombardy capital, Milan. But above all, Città Alta (Upper Bergamo) is beautiful to visit (on weekdays) for its history. It is a city surrounded by Venetian walls and boasting historic churches and palaces.

From the San Vigilio funicular exit, continue on the right, in a few minutes you will reach the gate of the castle park. Enter, go up the stairs inside the tower. At the top you can enjoy the 360° view of the whole of Bergamo in the shade of large trees.

Piazza Vecchia (in Bergamo dialect Piassa Ègia) is the most famous square in Bergamo in the Upper Town. The seat of political and civil activity for many centuries, it was formerly called platea magna nova. It is connected through the portico of the Palazzo della Ragione with the platea Sancti Vincentii, which became Piazza del Duomo. There are many bars, access to two churches that can be visited and the library building. It is also possible to visit the bell tower.
