This staircase starts from the funicular area and allows you to walk towards the gate of the walls and admire the view of the lower city

The Esterle hydroelectric power plant, located on the right bank of the Adda River, began operating in 1914. It is dedicated to the memory of Carlo Esterle, Edison's managing director until 1918. The building, particularly known for its beauty, is constructed in a style derived from the eclectic Lombard tradition. The meticulous ornaments, the geometric and floral motifs, the columns and capitals at the entrance, the wrought iron street lamps and the imposing Gothic-style windows make it appear more like a villa than a real industrial building.

I live at the foot of the steps. To go to the Upper Town I never take the funicular but I go on foot. Sometimes I take a walk up the steps, continuing on via Tre Armi until the descent of the Santa Lucia steps, then, a little further on I go back up via Tre Armi through the vicolo del paradiso, a few more meters on via Tre Armi and I take a variant of the vicolo del Paradiso and I find myself towards the swimming pools. At that point I go back up with via Fontanabloro to via Tre Armi. I move towards the restaurant La Marianna in Colle Aperto, through the Upper Town via Bartolomeo Colleoni until Porta San Giacomo, finally, I continue on the viale delle mura until the starting point, my house. Nice walk of about an hour and a half at my slow pace.

The charm of Città Alta is reaching it by funicular or on foot. The uphill routes are cobbled and simply require sneakers. Done countless times as an evening walk.

Important power station built with a construction that integrates without excessively disfiguring the entire area

The San Michele bridge, also known as the Calusco bridge, Paderno bridge or Röthlisberger bridge, is an icon of Italian industrial archaeology. Located in the gorge of the Adda river, it connects Paderno d'Adda and Calusco d'Adda and is an iron arch bridge for mixed rail-road traffic, now open only to road transit. With over 100 meters of height above the waters of the Adda river, the bridge offers a spectacular visual impact from the top. Its fascinating structure and the history linked to the region make it a point of reference along the Lecco-Trezzo d'Adda route. A recognized masterpiece, the San Michele Bridge represents a significant testimony to the local industrial history.

When you finish the staircase you will find the slope towards the San Giacomo gate on the right, but look at the fountain and you will see a road ahead that runs along the walls. Follow it all until you reach the Sant Alessandro gate. Before entering you find the funicular that takes you to San Vigilio and from there it's all downhill. You return to the San Alessandro gate on foot, reach Colle Aperto, enter the Cittadella and walk through the upper city until the arrival of the funicular from the lower city. In front of the funicular entrance, keep right and go down to the San Giacomo gate, cross it and arrive in front of the fountain from where the ladder starts. Have a good walk.
