The inhabitants of Lavacchielli left their homes in the 50s to emigrate to France and work the stone being very good without realizing it.. at the beginning the women and children stayed but later, given the better living conditions, they also abandoned the village to join their families... ghostly landscape, suggestive and visible for a few more years.. it is collapsing.. splendid forest and waterfalls around!

Whoever climbs up from the mountain, in addition to the beech trees, catches the eye of the suggestive chapel of the Madonna della Guardia. It is a stone building, with Romanesque lines, very well maintained. Among the religious festivals that mark, during the year, moments long awaited by the entire community, we remember, in particular, the Madonna della Guardia on Mount Barigazzo (29 August). The meeting place on Monte Barigazzo (which in the past could be reached on foot) still represents the highlight of the summer, also because family groups from Gravago, Tosca, Mariano and elsewhere converge there.

Ghost village of Lavacchielli. The town is melancholy but very suggestive, immersed in the quiet, and all built with stone worked to perfection by the stonemasons who lived in this valley. This town became depopulated in the 1950s due to its inaccessible location.

During the Second World War this "Chapel" gave shelter to the partisans who chose this place as their headquarters, enjoying a privileged position between the Taro and Ceno valleys. In 1945, once the war was over, many, in order to fulfill their vows to the Madonna, thought of expanding her chapel, and so in 1946 the work was carried out, transforming the chapel into the current Sanctuary.
