The Palazzo Farnese, also Villa Farnese or Villa Caprarola in Caprarola is one of the most important palaces of the Renaissance and Mannerism in Italy. It is famous for the numerous Mannerist frescoes that decorate the walls and ceilings inside. Not only the building in the form of a pentagon, which was built around a circular courtyard surrounded by colonnades, is impressive. From this high point on the ridge at the east end of Bagnoregio there are impressive views of the valley, the gorge, the impressive backdrop of Civita di Bagnoregio on the towering tuff ridge and the pedestrian bridge over the gorge which provides the exciting access to the gorge fascinating old town through an old city gate. The somewhat tedious way down from the vantage point, over the bridge and on the other side uphill again to the town is worth it!
