The marked route is not exactly the Via dei Mulini. The cycle path must be taken from Lido Riccio in Ortona, going up along the Arielli River to its source, crossing the territory of Tollo, Crecchio and arriving at Arielli, then descending back to Ortona along the Marrucina or Pescarese, or the same route in reverse along the river. Crecchio is a small village in the province of Chieti. It is perched on a rock spur so from any side you have a very beautiful view of the surrounding hills. The imposing ducal castle of the De Riseis-D'Aragona family is very characteristic. Inside there is the museum of Byzantine and early medieval Abruzzo.
