Here on the Aartal cycle path, there are still some relics of the old Aartal railway line to admire.

My tip: plan your arrival for late afternoon, because in good weather, the distant views are simply unbeatable. At 313 meters, the Meko is a quartzite peak that rises abruptly from the Limburg Basin – this is the reason for the epic view. From the top, you can see the Westerwald with its green peaks and – drum roll – Limburg Cathedral in the distance in all its glory. The Meko has been a nature reserve since 1998, and you can feel it: It is covered in a rare heathland and lean grassland, kept open by sheep grazing. This sea of purple blossoms, especially in late summer, is a stunning contrast to the vastness. Please note: Please stay on the marked paths to respect this protected flora and fauna! This is a magical place to pause for a moment on one of the benches, breathe in the expanse, and be proud of the altitude you have climbed.

A very pleasant restaurant with good food, a pleasant ambiance, and consistently attentive staff. About Wehen Castle: The castle was built around 1330 by Count Gerlach I of Nassau-Weilburg. It stands on the remains of a medieval castle – a smaller structure (e.g., a tower castle) may have existed there previously. Over the centuries, the castle has served various functions: as a court and administration building, a widow's residence, and a hunting lodge. It was also sometimes used for refugees or as living space. Today, it is a listed building. Museum: The Wehen Castle Museum has been located in the castle since 1995. The collection focuses on the regional and everyday history of Taunusstein/Wehen, such as life after the Second World War, local businesses and everyday life, as well as temporary exhibitions, such as art. In 2023, there was an expansion: three additional rooms on the ground floor were added to the exhibition "Taunusstein History(s) Retold," including exhibits on regional history. Wedding Room: Wehen Castle offers one of the wedding rooms of the Taunusstein Registry Office.

Great scenery and relaxing driving

The Historic Iron Road is a fascinating relic from the days of early ironwork and a popular highlight for cyclists in the Taunus Mountains. It impressively combines history, nature, and athletic challenge.

Very helpful if you have a minor defect. But be aware that the tools at many of these stations are broken. It's fine for smaller jobs (no tools for tightening spokes).
