라인강이 넓은 호를 그리며 감싸는 로렐라이 바위 뒤편, 강물에 맞서 앞으로 튀어나온 산등성이에는 카츠 성의 폐허가 자리 잡고 있습니다. 원래 모습은 거의 남아 있지 않습니다. 탑은 폐허가 되었고, 성벽은 무너졌으며, 아직 서 있는 방들은 거주 가능하게 만들기 위해 격렬한 개조를 거쳤습니다. 강 쪽으로는 오래된 회색 벽에 유리 온실을 삽입해야 했습니다.

아름다운 라인강 계곡에 위치하며 유명한 로렐라이 바위와 매우 가까운 라인펠스 성 유적지는 그림 같은 풍경으로 오늘날 국내외 손님들을 끌어들이고 있습니다. 한때 독일에서 가장 안전하고 난공불락의 성 중 하나로 여겨졌던 이 요새에는 오늘날 고급 호텔이 들어서 있습니다.

The town is the administrative seat of the Loreley municipality and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002. Loreley was long a district town – from 1886 of the district and from 1939 of the Sankt Goarshausen district, and from 1961 to 1969 of the Loreley district – and is designated as a medium-sized center in the state's regional planning.

Schönburg Castle in Oberwesel occupies a special position among the castles of the Middle Rhine: it remained in the possession of the Holy Roman Empire until its destruction. It was likely built in the first half of the 12th century by Count Palatine Hermann von Stahleck. Later, the Archbishops of Trier expanded the defenses of the contiguous group of castles. Among other things, the over 20-meter-high shield wall and the extensive outer baileys were constructed during this period. Despite structural alterations during the 20th century, Schönburg Castle still possesses a considerable amount of original building fabric, with the high shield wall being particularly striking. Today, the grounds house a hotel-restaurant, a Kolping House (a community center), and the Tower Museum. Hikers can reach Schönburg Castle via the Rhine Castles Trail (RheinBurgenWeg).

Currently closed in places...detour through the town but you can ignore it and get through just fine :)
