The Porta Romana in Campagnano di Roma is one of the historic entrances to the medieval village and a symbol of its identity. Impressive and well-preserved, it welcomes visitors with its stone structure that immediately evokes the atmosphere of the past. Crossing it means entering a town rich in history, with charming alleys and characteristic views. Today, it is also a landmark for pilgrims and travelers along the Via Francigena, who find here one of the most fascinating stops on the route to Rome.

Campagnano di Roma is located about 30 kilometres (19 miles) northwest of Rome.

Gateway to the historic center

The Valle del Sorbo is an enchanting valley in the Parco di Veio, located just 30 kilometers from the capital Rome. It is a “Site of Community Interest” due to the presence of the characteristic tuff valleys of the Roman countryside. The valley, crossed by the Fosso della Mola (later named Valchetta), extends between Formello and Campagnano di Roma and is populated by livestock kept in the wild. It is one of the most visited places in the park. The valley is also home to the Santuario della Madonna del Sorbo, an important stop on Lazio's Via Francigena.

Panoramic point where you can admire the town of Sacrofano which rises on the slopes of Mount Musino on the caldera of an ancient volcano, active about 330,000 years ago.

Along the way is this sculpture by Davide Dormino, designed for the environmental art project for the Via Francigena 2019. The marble sculpture becomes like a magnifying glass that frames the landscape.
