"Großholz" is the local field name for the plateau branching off to the right from the district road near Weilheim, which is intensively farmed up to the edge of the forest. At the edge of the forest, in line with the stone cross, is a shelter with a barbecue area. A beautiful view of the western edge of the Swabian Alb (Albtrauf) with the ever-present view of Hohenzollern Castle.

St. Joseph's Chapel The chapel stands outside the village in a prominent location in the gently sloping landscape between Rangendingen and Hirrlingen, framed by two natural monuments: two large, ancient linden trees. Built according to tradition in 1732, the simple-looking chapel has always been a constant attraction for devout petitioners, as evidenced by numerous contemporary devotional objects. St. Wendelin's Chapel ⛪ The chapel was built after 1732, following a cattle plague, and consecrated in 1747 by the Bishop of Constance "in honor of St. Joseph, St. Wendelin, and St. John of Nepomuk." Therefore, it is also known in the area as St. Joseph's Chapel. On the roof is a double cross, which was said to be particularly effective against evil (plague). The castle, presumably built in the 12th century and first documented in the 14th century, is considered the ancestral seat of the Stauffenberg family, from whose later line of counts – with a castle in Lautlingen – came Claus Schenk, Count von Stauffenberg. He was executed for his participation in the assassination attempt on Hitler on July 20, 1944. The castle has had a varied history of ownership; most recently, in 1954, it was essentially donated back to the Stauffenberg family by the Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen to establish a Stauffenberg family memorial. The current owner is Franz Schenk Freiherr von Stauffenberg, a member of the baronial line, based in Wilflingen in Upper Swabia. The memorial, erected in 1984 and both worth seeing and informative, consists of a simple wooden cross, a crescent moon Madonna, and a memorial stone with bronze plaques on the family history. At regular intervals along the path from the Hochburg to the Espenloch bench, the trees are decorated with carved wooden masks. The crowning glory is the Wishing Tree. However, the inscription is barely legible.

From Rangendingen, you can hike up to the Hochburg on a wide, not-too-steep path. Alternatively, there's an off-road version that's quite steep and requires more effort. Make sure your hiking boots have good tread in wet conditions.
