The lock in Detzem is a wonderful vantage point. The local lock bridges a height difference of an incredible 9 meters. This is the greatest drop of all the locks on the Moselle! The lock can easily be reached on foot or by bike from the town. It is impressive to watch how a large ship overcomes this height in the lock chamber in such a short time.

You'd have to request use of the trail from the municipality. However, sitting down and enjoying the magnificent view shouldn't be a problem! The entire setting is beautifully designed, and there are plenty of seating areas with romantic panoramic views near the Huxlay Hut. It's a great place to linger or start a hike. There are also a few parking spaces right on the Huxlay Plateau. You'll have to make sure you find the right path through the vineyards and then hope there's no oncoming traffic on the narrow path! https://www.mehring-mosel.de/freizeit/wandern

We would have liked to have enjoyed the view, but unfortunately the "Fünfseenblick" tower is closed for an indefinite period due to structural defects. (06/27/2022)
