Beautiful pond with duck houses in the water

In a document dated October 15, 967, the Palatine Chapel is described as "completely dilapidated." At that time, the name "Old Chapel" first appeared, probably in reference to its former status as a royal palatine chapel. A millennium has passed since the Bavarian Duke Henry IV, later German Emperor Henry II, took possession of the Old Chapel in Regensburg, restored it, and elevated it to his palatine chapel. The Old Chapel, a splendid Marian shrine, is one of the most important Christian sites in Bavaria. The entire interior of the church depicts the life of Emperor Henry II and his wife Kunigunde in the frescoes of the nave and transept, as well as in the numerous sculptures. The artistic designs reflect the Baroque and Rococo spirit.

Not far from Regensburg's St. Peter's Cathedral is the Old Chapel. As inconspicuous as the name of this church may sound, it conceals nothing less than the first church in Bavaria. It was built in 875 by Louis the German. Particularly noteworthy is the miraculous image depicting the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child. It was a gift from Pope Benedict VIII to Emperor Henry II. Anyone entering the church today is greeted by the splendor of the 18th century. Upon closer inspection, the original structure of the three-aisled pillar basilica with its east transept can still be seen beneath the white and gold of the Rococo period.
