The view of Suilven from the western approach is quite amazing, and it lives up to it's name - Suilven comes from the Norse and means Pillar or Pillar Mountain.

If you are lucky enough to have good weather the views are superb.

Perfect place to stop for a refreshing swim and just soak up the sea view.

Open 10:00 - 16:00. Closed on a Sunday during high season. Check website for opening times in the off season as often closes on a Monday too.

If you got a cloud free day, you will be rewarded with stunning views.

The Elphin tearoom is cyclist friendly and does a great selection of cakes, breakfasts and lunches. There is also a small farm shop if you need to pick up something to cook for dinner. The tearoom does close over winter so check the website for opening times before you visit.

Close to the village of Elphin is Cam Loch. It is very popular for fly fishing and is very picturesque. Looking along the length of the water you can see Suilven in the distance.

Do not come to Lochinver without stopping here! The larder is famous for it's melt in the mouth pastry and wide selection of fillings. You will be hard pushed to find a better pie anywhere in Scotland.

White sands and turquoise water, this is an incredible beach. The water is always cold but it is a wonderful place to go swimming. There is a small shop and a fish and chip place in the campsite where you can fuel up for your ride or warm up after your swim, or both!

Pedalling south east there is an incredible view of Suilven and Lochinver Harbour.

Heading east from Lochinver the incredible peak of Suilven comes into view. On a clear day it is magical. The climb to the summit is a famous one so you may see hikers on the trail too, although it is a still a long way off for those on two feet.

The trail towards Loch na Gainimh and the Glencanisp Forest is quite simply, stunning. You are surrounded by lochs and lochans with mountains rising up all around, including the iconic Suilven in the south east.

There is an incredible view over Loch na Gainimh to Suilven. It is a great destination to ride to from Lochinver following the route of the Highland Trail 550.

As the trail tracks along the north of the Maldie Burn the view south west towards Quinag and the surrounding peaks is incredible. It's difficult to resist the temptation just to stop and take it all in.

On a clear day the views along Loch Glencoul to the Stack of Glencoul are sublime. This stretch of trail along the water's edge is really quite something.

Gorgeous views from this stretch of trail down Loch Glencoul to the Stack of Glencoul. On a clear Spring day there's nowhere else I'd like to be.

You'll never forget your first glimpse of this special mountain. The long walk in from Lochinver teases the hiker as Suilven is always in the distance but it seems to take a long time to reach the bottom of the mountain.
