Well, now. Because the rather monotonous cycle and footpath next to the K 26 county road has little to nothing to offer, a highlight is set here: At a cow pasture, you can just about glimpse a silver lining on the horizon to the west. That could be the Great Inland Lake, because a strip of grass can be seen behind it. That doesn't quite make it a highlight.

Sea kale - Protection status: • Sea kale is strictly protected in Germany and may not be collected or dug up. • It has become rare in the wild – due, among other things, to coastal development and trampling damage.

🧑‍🍳 Sea kale - Edible and historically cultivated: • Sea kale was a delicacy in England and France in the 18th and 19th centuries – similar to asparagus. • The young, bleached shoots, which have a slightly nutty, cabbage-like flavor, are primarily used. • Today, sea kale is experiencing a small revival in gourmet cuisine and organic farming.

🌊 Sea kale - Habitat: • Prefers saline, nutrient-poor coastal locations. • Often found in beach ridges or near dunes. • In Germany, it is found primarily on the Baltic Sea coast (e.g., in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).

🌱 Sea kale - Characteristics: • Appearance: Thick, fleshy, bluish-green leaves with wavy edges. • Growth habit: A perennial, herbaceous plant with a strong taproot. • Flowering time: May to June – then it displays many small, white flowers in dense clusters. • Size: Up to about 50 cm tall.
