A fortification was first documented around 1255. A moat is mentioned in 1261, city gates in 1297, and a wall in 1298. The fortification consisted of a ring of walls with a parapet walk. Since the beginning of the 19th century, the fortification has lost its significance as a defensive structure, and the population was permitted to build their houses directly against the wall, provided they did not create any openings for windows, for example.

The narrow forest path leads from Krausberg to the Ahr valley - or vice versa. You hike mostly under the trees, but wonderful views open up again and again.

The beautiful hike – initially a steep climb to the EVA Tower – offers repeated, magnificent views of the Ahr Valley. The Kloster Marienthal winery (daily 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; especially busy on weekends!) is a great place to stop for a break. Enjoy good wine and delicious tarte flambée or homemade sweet cakes before heading back through the vineyards. So, hiking enthusiasts, put on your hiking boots and head out into the beautiful nature of the Ahr Valley.
