Sculpture path, in the middle of the vineyards

The "Red House" is a vineyard tower with a hexagonal floor plan in the "Goldberg" vineyard, south of the Osthofen mountain church. The tower has three floors, with the lowest floor being half hidden in the basement of the vineyard as a shelter for workers or hikers. The roof forms what was originally a walkable roof terrace with a crenellated crown. The neo-Gothic windows, the entrance door and the six corner pillars are made of red brick and give the vineyard tower its name. The "Red House" is one of four surviving, elaborately designed vineyard houses in Osthofen.

Paul Diestel created this work of art in 2023 based on an ancient children's game in which poppy capsules and poppy flowers are plucked and put together. This creates a small, ephemeral figure, the poppy man. In life size, the marginal plant becomes a guardian in the vineyard. This 160 x 60 x 30 cm bronze sculpture is dedicated to the pharmacist Hildegard Dressino from Abenheim.
