A great view of Villach and the surrounding area

The mountain bike tour leads from Villach through the Ossiacher Tauern mountains along secondary roads, cycle paths, and forest trails, offering many wonderful views of the lake and the Landskron Castle ruins. The tour is well signposted and only moderately challenging! From the Tauern Teich, you can head either towards Köstenberg or towards Lake Ossiach!

The tour is well signposted and only moderately challenging! From the Tauern pond, you can head either towards Köstenberg or Ossiach!

Sword finds, inscribed stones, and burial mounds prove that Landskron was already settled in the 9th century BC. Several of these finds are now walled into the Crown Hall. A charter from King Carloman from 878 AD reports that the property was donated to the Altötting Monastery in Bavaria. In 1028, Count Ozzi appeared as the new lord of the manor, followed by the Counts of Sternberg, who built a castle. In 1330, the estate was sold to the Counts of Ortenburg.

Challenging climb, absolutely not suitable for children and/or dogs. Extremely boring return, dirt road with no view.
