Sigmundskron Castle is located south of Bolzano, above the Adige River. The castle has changed hands and names several times over the centuries. Before Sigmundskron, the castle was called Firmian. The current owner, Reinhold Messner, also calls the castle ruins that, more precisely MMM Firmian (Messner Mountain Museum). The MMM is a project with six locations in Tyrol.

Lake Kaltern (Italian: Lago di Caldaro) is a lake at the junction of the Überetsch and the Unterland in South Tyrol (Italy). Lake Kaltern is one of the largest lakes in South Tyrol (although it is rather poor in terms of lakes) and is considered – along with Lake Klopein – the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. The water temperature reaches up to 28°C in summer, and the bathing season runs from May to September. The eastern and western shores are mainly developed for tourism; the southern shore is reedy. In addition to swimming, other popular sports include rowing and pedal boating, sailing, and windsurfing. The latter benefit from the prevailing mountain and valley wind circulation and the afternoon ora wind. Motorboats are not permitted. Great developed bike path

For those who normally only cycle over bridges, the tunnel ride is a real highlight. It's great that these routes have been prepared for cyclists. This tunnel was developed as part of the conversion of an old railway line into a cycle path. The route is one of the most popular cycle paths in the region, as it offers a picturesque and safe connection through the Überetsch area.

The descent from the vineyards towards Lake Kaltern is a particularly memorable experience. Just relax and enjoy the magnificent view of the vineyards and the lake. Great tour, highly recommended.

Sigmundskron Castle sits enthroned on a rock at a strategically important location. It is a symbolic landmark for the South Tyroleans. On November 17, 1957, approximately 35,000 South Tyroleans from all valleys and regions gathered at Sigmundskron Castle. They protested for more rights. The castle has become a symbol of South Tyrol's autonomy. Reinhold Messner, who was born in Brixen in 1944, therefore shows a strong connection to this castle in his homeland.

A lovely destination for a tour, on a beautiful route that offers pretty much everything. Great scenery, beautiful views of Lake Kaltern and the mountains, a completely relaxed ride. It's worth it!
