There are many paths to explore along the fish ponds. There are also some rest stops and small beaches. The area and the forest are very nice and quiet.

The area of the Ahlhorn fish ponds was artificially designed around 100 years ago. Valuable biotopes have developed from the ponds over time. The valleys of the former hilly landscape were partly developed into fish ponds and are fed with water from the Lethe and managed by the pond management of the Lower Saxony State Forests. South of the fish ponds is the Weser-Ems forest education center, an extracurricular place of learning that is also operated by the Ahlhorn forestry office.
