Beautiful church near Wetter Castle. It belongs to two churches in the Wetter-Freiheit Protestant-Reformed parish, which was merged in 2024.

The town of Wetter (today: Alt-Wetter) originally belonged to the county of Mark, which between 1250 and 1274 was built by the Counts of Mark, Wetter Castle, probably mainly as a Margraviate outpost against the Electorate of Cologne's Volmarstein Castle. With the introduction of the Margraviate of Mark's administrative constitution, a bailiff of the Counts of Mark, who usually belonged to the regional nobility, came to Wetter at the beginning of the 14th century. Since the 19th century, Wetter has belonged to the Hagen district in the Arnsberg administrative district of the Prussian province of Westphalia. The town charter that Wetter had lost in 1809 was re-granted in 1909. Since 1929, Wetter has belonged to the Ennepe-Ruhr district. Through the law on the reorganization of the Ennepe-Ruhr district, the then town of Wetter (Ruhr) was merged with the neighboring communities of Esborn, Volmarstein and Wengern to form a new town, which was also given the name Wetter (Ruhr). The area of the old town of Wetter has since formed the Alt-Wetter district. The coat of arms of the old town of Wetter (Ruhr) shows a gold (yellow) bar chequered from red to silver (white) in three rows of eight fields each, with a black W above it. The coat of arms shows the symbols of the Counts of Mark (chequered bars) and the "W" for the city. The old Wetter town hall with the statue of Baron vom und zum Stein, the Villa Bönnhoff and Villa Vorsteher as well as the Luther Church built in 1905 are among the most important buildings in the district. Equally important is the approximately 5.2 hectare municipal cemetery of Alt-Wetter, which is located on Gartenstrasse on the southwest slope of the Harkortberg.
