8월 31, 2025, My Floating Home by Karolin Schwab
What does it mean to be at home? "To be physically present in a place, anchored in the moment, yet with one's thoughts far away," is how the artist Karolin Schwab describes it. In her project My Floating Home, Schwab, born in Stralsund in 1987 and now living in Berlin, explores this question with site-specific, intervening sculptures whose external form is reminiscent of the outline of a house and stands in the water. In Niederwiesa, OT Braunsdorf, the artist places red powder-coated square tubes in situ in the Mühlgraben, a bypass of the Zschopau River, like a fleeting, three-dimensional sketch of a house. 7월 28, 2025, Harras-Denkmal
Harras Monument in Braunsdorf. Information: The Harras Monument was erected in 1801 to commemorate the Harras legend. It originally stood opposite the Harras Rock on the banks of the Zschopau River. The current Harras Monument, a copy of the 1801 original, was rebuilt on its historical site in 1994, destroyed by flooding in 2002, and reconstructed in June 2004. According to the legend, while fleeing his enemies, Knight Dietrich Harras jumped from the Hausstein (now the Harras Rock) into the river and survived.

6월 11, 2025, View of Hetzdorf Viaduct
The Hetzdorf Viaduct is an impressive, listed former railway bridge in Saxony, crossing the Flöha Valley. Here are the key facts: * Construction period and opening: It was built between 1866 and 1868 as part of the double-track Dresden-Chemnitz (later Dresden-Werdau) main line. The first locomotive ran the bridge on a trial basis on September 23, 1868, and it was opened to rail traffic on March 1, 1869. * Architecture and dimensions: * It is 43 meters high and 328 meters long. * The bridge has four large arches in the center of the valley (with a clear width of 22.66 meters) and thirteen smaller arches. * In plan, it forms an arch with a radius of 572 meters. * The building materials used were blue-gray gneiss, granite, and Pirna sandstone. * It was the highest single-story bridge of the German Reichsbahn. * Function and decommissioning: The viaduct served railway traffic for 123 years. Due to wear and tear and the need to straighten the line, a new route with two modern prestressed concrete bridges was put into operation in 1992, and the Hetzdorf Viaduct was closed to railway traffic. * Current use: Today, the Hetzdorf Viaduct is a popular tourist destination and can be crossed on foot. It is part of several hiking trails, including the Baltic Sea-Saale Dams long-distance hiking trail, and offers an unforgettable view over the Flöha Valley. * Proximity to the "Bastei": Nearby is the so-called Hetzdorf Bastei, from which you can enjoy an excellent view of the viaduct and the surrounding landscape. In summary, the Hetzdorf Viaduct is an important structure in German railway history and today a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers.

The 🟣 PURPLE PATH 🟣 is a sculpture trail that connects Chemnitz, the 2025 Capital of Culture, with 38 towns and cities in the region. Numerous artists have contributed works of various kinds, telling an unknown story of the region. More information at https://chemnitz2025.de/purple-path/ Karolin Schwab "My Floating Home" in Niederwiesa, Webermühle Braunsdorf and Schauweberei Braunsdorf Material: hot-dip galvanized steel (powder-coated) Dimensions: 3.30 x 2.00 x 2.00 m "What does it mean to be at home? "To be physically present in a place, anchored in the moment, yet with one's thoughts far away," is how the artist Karolin Schwab describes it. In her project My Floating Home, Schwab, who was born in Stralsund in 1987 and lives in Berlin, explores the question raised here with site-specific, intervening sculptures whose external form is reminiscent of the outline of a house and stands in the water. In Niederwiesa, OT Braunsdorf, the artist places red powder-coated square tubes in situ, like a fleeting, three-dimensional sketch of a house, in the Mühlgraben, a bypass of the Zschopau River. While Karolin Schwab's first sculpture, My Floating Home, stands a few hundred meters from the Danish Arken Museum of Modern Art on the expansive, reflective surface of the Baltic Sea, the work conceived for Braunsdorf squeezes itself between the banks of the ditch created to power the nearby grain mill. With the changing seasons, constantly changing images emerge in the water, both literally and figuratively, between the red outline of the house and the surroundings. Niederwiesa is a place of apparent contrasts, between the baroque Lichtenwalde Palace with its art collections, parks, and water features, and the textile industry, which settled in the Braunsdorf district around 1800 and commissioned Saxony's first spinning mill. What connects art and work is the Zschopau River, which meanders through the landscape. Its waters fed (and fed) the Baroque fountains in Lichtenwalde Landscape Park, the former cloth and yarn factories, and the flour mill that still exists today.
